Aldosterone

Please note: sampling requirements for aldosterone and renin have changed since 17.01.18.

Both tests can be performed on a single EDTA sample (purple top).

This must be a dedicated sample.

Background:

Investigation of hyper/hypoaldosteronism

Patients should have discontinued diuretic therapy if safe to do so, be volume replete, and on a normal diet (low-sodium diet can elevated aldosterone levels).

The patient should be rested for 15 minutes prior to testing. Please request urea and electrolyte analysis at the same time.
