Metanephrines (plasma)
Background:
Investigation of phaeochromocytoma.
The locally available first line phaeochromocytoma screen is 24-hr urine metanephrines. The plasma test is only routinely available to the Endocrine team.
- A fasting sample is preferred. Avoid caffeine.
- The patient should ideally be supine during sampling
Samples must be received in the lab within 1 hour.
