Background:
Investigation of paracetamol overdose
In investigation of overdose, samples should be taken 4 hours post-ingestion and prior to treatment.
Please note: paracetamol results may be falsely low (up to 40 %) if samples are taken post N-acetylcysteine (Parvolex) treatment. Treatment will also significantly lower subsequent creatinine results.
All detectable results will be telephoned to the requesting ward.
