Aldosterone
Background:
Investigation of hyper/hypoaldosteronism
Patients should have discontinued diuretic therapy if safe to do so, be volume replete, and on a normal diet (low-sodium diet can elevated aldosterone levels).
The patient should be rested for 15 minutes prior to testing. Please request urea and electrolyte analysis at the same time.
Aldosterone and renin analysis can be performed on a single EDTA (purple top) sample. This must be a dedicated sample.
