Albumin

Background:

Part of liver function test profile.

Albumin is a negative acute phase protein and will be low in cirrhosis, chronic illness, nephrotic syndrome and post-surgery. Albumin is also used in calculation of adjusted calcium concentrations.

Reference ranges:

Age range Reference range (g/L)
< 30 days 30 - 45
< 16 years 30 - 50
> 16 years (adults) 35 - 50
