Conjugated bilirubin
Background:
Investigation of jaundice.
Bilirubin is conjugated to glucuronic acid in the liver, which renders it water soluble. Conjugated bilirubin is then secreted as bile, and excreted in the stool.
Conjugated bilirubin is also commonly known as direct bilirubin, although the two terms are not strictly equivalent.
